In August 2025, Ukraine will officially introduce Open Banking. This implies that banks are obliged to open their public APIs and allow third-party payment service providers to initiate payments and access the account information of their customers, subject to their consent. The Open Banking framework opens up plenty of opportunities for the Ukrainian financial market: credit and non-credit financial institutions, various payment service providers & agents, and e-money institutions.
To provide all members of the financial system with the ability to start early development of Open Banking interfaces the GD Next GmbH team in Ukraine created an open source project “Open Banking Ukraine” based on the European PSD2 standard and Open Banking specifications adopted by the Ukrainian Open API Group.
The Open Banking Ukraine project is published on GitHub. It defines the data models for the basic payment services in Ukraine: single payments, account information consents, and account information services, such as account balance, and transaction history.
