Banca Comercială Română (BCR) was accredited by the Romanian Digitization Authority (RDA) for the video process of opening a current account for individuals and entrepreneurs 100% online on the digital platform banking George.
The RDA accreditation certifies that BCR can offer, through George, banking services for which customer identification is carried out remotely using video and it is compliant with the new regulations in Romania. The authority’s approval is valid for the process of identifying natural persons, both in the case of opening personal current accounts and current accounts for small and medium-sized enterprises, regardless of the method of accessing the platform, web or mobile.

“We are very pleased that we managed to offer the process of opening an account in George, which was officially recognized by the Romanian Digitization Authority. It’s a recognition that gives our customers an extra guarantee in terms of safety, privacy, and, above all, the maturity of our platform, which has been constantly strengthened and improved over the last 4 years since its launch. At the same time, it is the result of the work and dedication of my colleagues in BCR for the continuous development of a digital banking platform, which stands as a benchmark including at the group level,”– said Dana Dima, Vice President of Retail & Private Banking, BCR.

The process of opening a 100% online George current account takes about 10 minutes and is simple and intuitive. It starts on the website www.bcr.ro and covers some key milestones in opening a relationship with the bank:

    • Entering personal or business information, including contact information
    • Verification of the phone number provided
    • Photographing and sending the identity card
    • Making a profile photo (selfie type)
    • Automatic comparison of biometric data
    • Initiating a video call through the platform to complete the customer authentication process
    • Signing of the digital account agreement by qualified electronic signature.

George is a digital ecosystem that is constantly transforming and evolving. Thus, George has added more than 250 new functionalities since its launch in October 2018. The George platform was designed by Erste Group’s Innovation Hub in Vienna, with the involvement of several young Romanian IT professionals. Currently, George has approximately 1.5 million active users in Romania, increasing by 20% year by year.
